CIARGA + Penyafort castle

During the Civil War part of the Penyafort castle-convent was confiscated by the republican army and reconverted into a prison. The church got transformed into a community cell where the fascists soldiers linked to the aviation remained imprisoned and the cloister was used as a prison yard. The penitentiary, active until January of 1939, was located near the airfield of Santa Margarida i els Monjos and was part of the set of equipment that the republican aviation built in the Penedès to combat the bombing and defend the front.

With this combined activity, we suggest you meet three key spaces to understand the facts, protagonists and consequences of the aerial war application in the Santa Margarida i els Monjos municipality: the remains of the old aviators prison in the Penyafort castle, the old Monjos aerodrome with the visit to CIARGA and the Serral air raid shelter which, with its 100 meter of subterranean gallery, protected the pilots and the airfield staff from the bombings.

Individual public:

• This activity takes place the fourth Sunday of every month at 11 a.m.
• Meeting point: CIARGA (mapa)
• Duration: 2 hours
• Price: 7€ per person
• Reduced price*: 3,5€ per person
• Time to make reservations until the Thursday before te visit
• The move from one space to the other will be done by bus or the group’s own vehicles. Both spaces have a free parking area.

Arranged groups:

• Duration: 2 hours
• Price: 90€ per group of up to 30 people. If the group exceeds 30 people, an additional 3.5€ must be paid per extra attendee.
• Reduced price (seniors): 76.50€ per group of up to 30 people. If the group exceeds 30 people, an additional 3.5€ must be paid per extra attendee.
• The move from one space to the other will be done by bus or the group’s own vehicles. Both spaces have a free parking area.
